David Lawrence Brewster Jr. (born June 3, 1988) is an American rapper and actor better known by his stage name Dave East. East began his career in 2010, and his eighth mixtape, Black Rose, got him notice in 2014. Its release drew the notice of fellow New York rapper Nas, who signed East to his record company, Mass Appeal Records, and eventually to Def Jam Recordings.

East was named to XXL magazine’s 2016 Freshman Class in 2016. Kairi Chanel, his ninth mixtape, was released the same year and reached at number 38 on the US Billboard 200. His eleventh mixtape, Paranoia: A True Story, was published in 2017 and topped the US Billboard 200 featuring appearances from Nas, Wiz Khalifa, and Chris Brown, among others. Survival, his first studio album, was released on November 8, 2019, and reached at number 11 on the Billboard 200. In 2020, he released the critically acclaimed mixtape Karma 3, which peaked at number 36 on the US Billboard 200.

East began his acting career in 2017, playing himself in Being Mary Jane and The Breaks. He also appeared as “Mister Ford” in the Netflix film Beats (2019). His breakthrough performance was as Method Man in the Hulu series Wu-Tang: An American Saga (2019).
